Children in DC

DC Action for Children is a non-profit organization working to improve the outcomes for Washington DC's children. One way they hope to achieve this aim is by collecting and providing data on children's conditions in DC.

Where Resources and Well-Being Vary in DC is a Google Maps based portal to explore data on the well-being of children and families in Washington's neighborhoods. The map allows you to visualize a range of data on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis.

The map provides four key visualizations (accessed by the menu at the top of the map) to view neighborhood heat maps of children in poverty, children living in single mother families, students proficient in reading and students proficient in math.

Alongside these four key policy insights you can use the 'choose a dataset' menu to view data on the map relating to education, health, childcare, crime and a number of other factors important to the well-being of DC'c children.
